Revitalising Delivery: Cairns & Hinterland install 3 Syringe Dispensing Units

Updated: Sep 25, 2023

In the pursuit of better harm reduction initiatives, the Cairns and Hinterland Local Health District in Queensland has recently installed Syringe Dispensing Units (SDUs), designed and manufactured by G2V Design to replace their existing aging equipment.

In January 2023, existing SDUs in Cairns were out of commission due to age and deterioration. Consumers had to visit centres during week day business hours.

The G2VD0407 model SDUs are bringing enhanced functionality and higher capacity to the region, contributing to the vital goal of providing clean injecting equipment to those who need it. Not only do these SDUs provide a safer option for acquiring clean injecting equipment, but their rugged construction ensures durability and longevity, further supporting the sustainability of harm reduction efforts.

One of the key advantages of G2V Design's SDUs is their flexibility in installation. These units can be battery-powered, eliminating the need for a mains electricity connection. This is particularly beneficial in remote or outdoor settings where access to electricity may be limited. However, the option to connect to mains power is available, providing versatility to adapt to various healthcare facility settings. This flexibility ensures that the SDUs can be deployed where they are needed most, regardless of infrastructure limitations

At the request of the Cairns & Hinterland LHD, the SDUs were fitted with high quality coin validators by Crane Payment Innovations.

The SDUs were freighted from Melbourne to Cairns inside highly protective shipping crates ensuring the units were protected from damage while in transit.

The Cairns & Hinterland LHD dispense clean injecting equipment in 400ml cylindrical sharps containers.

The time and testing conducted to ensure the machines were a right fit for our product was an early indicator of the integrity of the business ... communication throughout was excellent.
